The TBR Pile Game

Bild
New years, new ideas. Smetimes I think I have too many ideas and too little discipline to follow them through, but sometimes I just linke making new plans, whether they work out in the end or not. Like most booklovers, I have an overflowing bookshelf. Like many booklovers, I have had an e-reader for the last years. And I love it so much. I don't miss the smell of the paper, like yome people do, or the feeling of holding a real book. Instead, I enjoy not getting cramps in my hands from holding a 900-page-book, I enjoy always having multiple books with me though just carrying a light, tiny device, and I love being able to buy a book I really feel like reading in the middle of the night and starting it right away. The problem is, I have kind of stopped reading physical books altogether, although I have a lot of lovely unread books waiting for me on my shelves. Books are meant for reading, not for sitting on my shelf, so I've decided to integrate more physical books into my TBR

A new beginning

So. yeah. As you might have guessed, Readathon didn't happen as planned.. basically, something came up, and I couldn't spend the day reading, and even though I think I did get an hour of reading in, it didn't feel like the real thing, so I didn't want to blog about it. And afterwards basically life happened, with a lot to do at the job, moving and being sick.. but I haven't forgotten this blog, and I want to continue posting. Aaaand - the next readathon is also coming up in April - let's hope this one will work out a little better!... ;) So I take the fact that the new year has just started and everyone plans to be a better human this time around (for reeeeaaals!) to make some plans for my reading year in general and this blog specifically. So, first of all, I hope to go on reading as much as I did last year. I was happy with the amount of books I read, and mostly also with the books I read. However, here is the first change: I've decided I want to rea

Dewey's 24 hour readathon anticipation post

After being so successful on the last readathon - yayyy, here comes the next one! :) For several years now, I have participated in Dewey's 24 hour readathon  and it has always been so much fun! This time will be a special one, first because it's the 10-year-anniversary of this readathon, and secondly because this will be my first readathon with a blog!!! :) Let's see how good I will be with posting updates this time around.. ;) So, hard facts first: the readathon will be  OCTOBER 21 starting at the same time all over the world and lasting 24 hours. you can check on the website when your starting time is. E.g., for me here in Germany, the readathon starts Saturday at 2pm. Even though there are still over three weeks to go, I have of course started to at least mentally prepare for the event.  Reading Schedule: Thing is, I have a seminar on that day, probably lasting until 5pm. So I will already miss the first 3 hours. And I will not even attempt to read all through t

Once upon a time.. the reading quest ended!...

Ah well. It almost worked out to post a final update right after the end of the reading quest... coughcough... The thing is, I loved the reading quest so much that I decided to let it go on, for myself at least :) My plan is to let it go on until Christmas, and try to finish both the knight and the mage. 130 experience points and 170 health points, so I finished on level 3. I completed the Bard Path and the side challenge "mini game". I've read some really beautiful books and some I liked just fine. I had a lot of fun following people's reading progress, both online and offline.  I really had wanted to finish the knight's path as well, and so far I am really going on it! :) I have finished "The Raven Boys" for the first book of a series and "Never let me go" for a book with a verb in the title. For a book with a red cover, "Persepolis" is already waiting for me on my shelf; and the book with the weapon on the cover may either be

Reading Quest Halfway Update

So. About half-time in the reading quest! :) I have accomplished quite some reading, even though I am not as far as I'd like to be... Concerning the bard reading quest, I have finished two books for it. I have also since started The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and I love it sooo much. I mean, I kind of knew I would like it but I still seem it sometimes hits me when I realize how much I love a book. Yesterday, it had me crying and chuckling in the span of about 20 pages. I am on page 170 now and I hope to finish it in the next days.. I also hope to read Neil Gaiman's Sleeper and the Spindle in the next days. And then there is only one book left for the bard challenge. Yayyy! :) Overall Pages  (Novel) : 565 + 170 = 735 Pages (Graphic Novels): 208 Audioobook minutes: 180 min Books finished:  3 Experience  Points : 45 Level : 1 Health Points : 112

Belated Update for Reading Quest Day 10 (is it?)

Bild
Oh dear. I wanted to post an update at the beginning of this week but failed. Oh well. Here it is, a little belated. Just imagine it's 6 days ago: Monday: Almost a week later.. :D so I went hinking for several days last week, and so I didn't manage either much reading nor any posting.. Instead, I re-fell in love with forests... look how beautiful it was: In order to celebrate this beauty, I read the very awesome graphic novel "Through the woods". It's a great collection of Gothic ghost stories, just right to give you a chill (or several) but will still let you sleep afterwards.. :) I also finished The Automobile Club of Cairo, which really is a great book, although I had to go to Wikipedia right after finishing it in order to understand the historical context a little better (wait, why do I list that as a disadvantage?! Education, bro! ;) ) Today I listened to "Pünktchen und Anton" on audiobook and really enjoyed it as well. The funny thing

Reading Quest Day 4

Ah well. That almost worked with the daily updates... :D But as I said, i was kind of busy with a lot of other stuff, and as expected there isn't too much progress I can actually tell you about.. On the upside: I am progressing accoridng to my plan! :D The plan was to read "The Automobileclub of Cairo" in the first week, and so far I am 40% into the book (approximately 260 pages), and I love it so far! I like the way the book gives you background stories to a lot of different characters. This makes the development of the plot slow, but gives you such a good and diverse impression of the Egyptian society in the 1930s (as I am pretty sure this is when the main story takes place, so far the book has not given an exact year..). It reminds me a little of J.K. Rowling's Casual Vacancy in the way it follows these different characters in order to give you an impression of the society, but also to analyze small psychological mechanisms. I just hope this book's end wi
